Carver County Library 2020 Virtual Summer Reading Program is June 1-August 15Imagine Your Story written on a background of green

This year summer reading goes virtual! From now through August 15, you can create your account in Beanstack online or in their app for Apple or Android if you don't have one. You do reviews and activities through August 15 either in the app or on paper (more information below).  Note- if you already had the app installed, we recommend you either update it or delete and reinstall it.

We'll also have a variety of programs online for kids and teens, including weekly performers, storytimes, Lego challenges, scavenger hunts, and escape rooms. Our calendar and Facebook events for more information. Need reading suggestions? Book lists compiled by our librarians are below.

Schedule of Performers 

This schedule is tentative and will be updated frequently.  We will also note where performances can be found, though we expect most of them to be available in our Facebook events from the morning of the first date through the evening of the last date listed. 

  • June 22-28: Music with the Jolly Pops
  • June 29-July 5: A performance by Lalo’s Lunch Box
  • July 6-12: A performance by Schiffelly Puppets                                        
  • July 13-19: Animal fun with the Reptile and Amphibian Discovery (RAD) Zoo
  • July 20 -July 26: Music with Siama  
  • July 27-August 1: Children’s author David Larochelle and illustrator Mike Wohnoutka ("Moo!")
  • August 2-8: The Bazillions
  • August 9-15: Lowry Nature Center

Craft Kits

Low on craft supplies for our art challenges or take and makes? We're giving away kits with markers, crayons, scissors, glue, and the like during curbside pickup hours at our libraries starting June 1st, while supplies last. Limit one kit per each participating child, please.

Kids Program

 Kids from birth to age 11 can participate by:

  • Completing five activities in the app or on the sheet to receive a free book. 
  • Completing as many Read, Write, Draw book reviews as they want to (there's no limit).
    • Do book reviews either:
      • Using Beanstack (app or website). You can take pictures of any review or artwork and upload it, or they can be typed in. This is new for the app this year. 
      • Using paper: Kids Book Review (Read Write Draw)
        • These can be returned to the library using book drop or at any library that may be open, except at Chanhassen Library.
          • At Chanhassen Library, please return forms only in the labeled box available during their curbside pickup hours only.

Note- Entering book review/s doesn't guarantee a prize, and prizes cannot be exchanged. Prize drawings will be done after summer reading ends. Prizes include an additional book and Barnes & Noble gift card. Summer Reading prize winners will be contacted by their library for details on picking up their prize.

Teens Program

Teens from 12 to 18 can participate by:

  • Completing five activities in the app or on the  Teen Activity Card to receive a free book.
  • Completing as many Best Book Ever book reviews as they want to (there's no limit).
    • Do book reviews either:
      • Using Beanstack (app or website). This is new for the app this year.
      • Using paper: Teen Book Review (Best Book Ever)
        • These can be returned to the library using book drop or at any library that may be open, except at Chanhassen Library.
          • At Chanhassen Library, please return forms only in the labeled box available during their curbside pickup hours only.
  • Entering the Teen Bookmark Design Contest.
    • Teens can enter once, using this form: Teen Bookmark Design Contest 
    • Forms need to be returned to the library using the drop box, except at Chanhassen Library.
      • At Chanhassen Library, please return forms only in the labeled box available during their curbside pickup hours only.
    • Each branch chooses a winner. The prize is a Barnes and Noble gift card.
    • Bookmarks will be printed and made available to the public in October in celebration of Teen Read Month.
