Carver County Library supports its mission of linking people with ideas and information by developing and presenting inclusive, enriching, informative, and engaging programs that meet the evolving needs of our communities. Programming is a vital and visible element of library service that:
- Fosters community-building and outreach
- Reflects and honors cultural and individual diversity
- Responds to emerging trends, community interests and needs
- Improves visibility of the Library and its resources
- Supports lifelong learning and literacy at all ages
- Promotes civic connection, engagement, health, and wellbeing
- Leverages partnerships to broaden access and impact
- Provides useful, timely and relevant information
- Uses public resources responsibly and effectively
Engaging, relevant, and community-centered programs often serve as entry points for community members who are new to the library or returning after an extended absence.
Library programming includes both in-person and virtual formats, as well as hybrid options when appropriate, to improve access and flexibility. Programs are designed with intentionality, using input from community members, partners, and staff. They align with the Library’s strategic goals to ensure they are inclusive, innovative, and responsive to Carver County’s growing and changing population.
Strategic Emphasis
Library programs support Carver County’s broader priorities to:
- Provide welcoming and accessible environments for all
- Reflect diverse points of view and community voices
- Connect people to information, services, and each other
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience
- Position the library as a trusted community hub
- Embrace technology, innovation, and continuous learning
- Grow staff capacity and leadership to support expanded programming
Partnerships
The Library actively seeks partnerships with individuals, schools, nonprofits, local businesses, and cultural organizations to strengthen program content, reach new audiences, and enhance the community impact of events and services.
Program Selection and Review
All library programs follow the principles outlined in the Library Bill of Rights and are consistent with the Carver County Policies. Programs are selected based on their alignment with the Library’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
Individuals who wish to request reconsideration of a library program may complete a “Request for Reconsideration of Program” form, available at all library locations and on the Library’s website. The Library Director will respond in writing. Appeals of the Director’s response may be brought to the Carver County Library Board, whose decision is final.
