Carver County Library Board Policy: Materials for Posting or Distribution
Section LB2
Date Approved: 6/12/24
Previous Policy: 7/12/2022
Review Date: 6/2027
The Library maintains bulletin boards and literature display space for the purpose of disseminating library, community, or public service information and materials of educational or cultural interest. This service is in keeping with the Library’s mission statement, “To best serve the Carver County community, the library will be a provider of resources, spaces, and experiences that enrich and empower people’s lives.”
Any group or individual may request bulletin board or literature display space to disseminate information of interest to the public. All notices, posters, and free literature must be approved and placed on the bulletin board or display areas by library staff.
Due to limited bulletin board and display space the Library may make reasonable restrictions on the time, place, size and manner in which notices and material may be displayed. Dated, defaced, or damaged materials will be removed.
Priority will first be given to Library information, and then to Carver County and city government information. Local school, cultural, educational opportunities, and civic and non-profit clubs and organizations follow in priority for posting and displaying information.
Religious and political materials are permissible for informational purposes or special events; materials which have the primary effect of conversion to a single point of view will not be accepted for display or distribution.
In general, no items devoted solely to the sale, advertising, solicitation or promotion of commercial products or services for a single profit making business will be accepted. Staff may make exceptions for announcements of educational opportunities provided by profit making businesses.
Placement of donation containers for outside organizations within the Library is prohibited, unless prior approval is given by the Branch Manager and/or Library Director. The Library assumes no responsibility for the contents collected or the damage or loss of the container itself.
