WHAT IS THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION?
The library foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 2005 that seeks to enhance the county-wide programs and services offered by Carver County Library. The foundation has a volunteer board of directors who are passionate about libraries.
WHY IS A LIBRARY FOUNDATION IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Although the Carver County government has increased its support of the library system over the past few years, this money is earmarked primarily for staffing and book collections. Many programs and services that residents and library staff want to see the library offer are not possible through current tax dollars. To support these initiatives, the foundation raises funds through contributions from businesses and individuals, grants, and special events.
WHAT TYPES OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES WILL THE FOUNDATION FUND?
The foundation intends to fund county-wide programs and services. These projects are determined by library staff in response to community needs. Projects include the popular summer reading programs.
HOW IS THE FOUNDATION DIFFERENT FROM THE FRIENDS GROUP?
The Library Foundation of Carver County is a separate organization from the friends of the library groups. A friends group supports its individual library branch, while the foundation is focusing on county-wide initiatives that will benefit residents at all branches or through outreach programs and services. The foundation and friends groups will work collaboratively on projects whenever possible.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
There are a number of ways that people can help. The library foundation seeks volunteers interested in serving on committees or who have specialized expertise such as event planning and event marketing. Volunteers are also needed to plan and carry out fundraising events. Of course, we welcome donations for supporting our libraries’ county-wide programs and services.
