Introducing OverDrive, your key to borrowing eBooks from the Carver County Library.  Now you can download eBooks to your e-reader, Kindle, iPad, or iPhone, from the comfort of your favorite wireless hotspot.  Simply find and follow the download instructions for your device from the list, below.

 
Note:  eBooks cannot be downloaded on the library’s public Internet computers.

How to Download Library eBooks to Your Nook or Other eReader

Books are downloaded to a computer and transferred to the eReader.

You must have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer, and your device must be authorized using your Adobe ID.
  1. From a computer, go to CCL Overdrive at:
    carverlib.lib.overdrive.com
  2. Browse the Overdrive e-book site and select a title.
  3. Click on Add to My Cart for each title.
  4. (Items will remain in your cart for 30 min.)
  5. Proceed to Checkout.
  6. Enter your library card number, and click Sign In.
  7. Choose your desired lending period.
  8. Confirm check out. (Limit of 3 titles may be checked out)
  9. Download the title. Choose Open when prompted.
  10. Adobe Digital Editions should open automatically.
  11. Connect the reader to your computer. It will appear in the left-hand pane under “Bookshelves.”
  12. In Library View, drag and drop the title from the right-hand pane to the eReader icon.
  13. Eject the eReader from the computer and disconnect.
  14. Navigate to the book on your eReader, and open it to start reading.

How to Download Library eBooks to Your Kindle

Books are managed via Amazon.com.

The device needs WiFi. Books will not download using 3G. Or you can transfer books from a computer using a USB cord.

  1. Login to CCL Overdrive at:
    carverlib.lib.overdrive.com
  2. Browse the Overdrive e-book site and select a title. Advanced search can limit search to Kindle compatible titles.
  3. Add the appropriate Kindle version to your bookbag.
  4.  Proceed to Checkout.
  5. Enter your library card number, and click Sign In.
  6. Choose your desired lending period.
  7. Confirm check out. (Limit of 3 titles may be checked out.
  8. Click the Get for Kindle button on the check-out confirmation page.
  9. Amazon will open. Log in to your Amazon account if you are not already logged in.
  10. Click Get Library Book link.
  11. Choose the Kindle device.
  12. The title will download when you sync your device.

How to Download Library eBooks to Your Mobile Device

(iPhone – iPad – Android)

Books are downloaded directly to the mobile device.
 
You must have an Adobe ID and install the OverDrive Media Console to your device.
  1. From your mobile device, go to CCL Overdrive at:
    carverlib.lib.overdrive.com
  2. Browse the Overdrive e-book site and select a title.
  3. Click on Add to My Cart for each title.
  4. (Items will remain in your cart for 30 min.)
  5. Proceed to Checkout.
  6. Enter your library card number, and click Sign In.
  7. Choose your desired lending period.
  8. Confirm check out. (Limit of 3 titles may be checked out) 
  9. Download the title. Choose Open in Overdrive when prompted.
  10. Ebooks are downloaded directly to your device.
  11. If prompted, choose Download Now.
  12. Click the book cover to begin reading.

Lending Policies
  • Customers are limited to 5 checked out titles at one time.
  • At checkout, customers may choose a 7, 14, or 21 day checkout period.
  • While borrowing, customers may have up to 6 titles in My Cart at one time.
  • Items remain in My Cart for 30 minutes.
  • If a title is checked out, a request for the title can be placed.
  • Customers are allowed 3 requests at a time.
  • An email address is required to place a request.  Notification that your request is available will be sent to this  e-mail address.
  • After notification, requested titles will be held for 3 days.  After that time, the request will be moved to the next customer on the list.
  • Items may be returned before the due date.
  • eBooks cannot be renewed, but they may be checked out again if there are no other requests on that title.
  • Customers with more than $10.00 in unpaid fees and fines on their library account cannot check out eBooks.  The same policy applies for all library materials.
