Carver County Library has long provided residents with an opportunity to meet their needs for entertainment, life-long learning, self-reliance, and enlightenment.  The Library Foundation of Carver County was established to help enhance the Library’s county-wide programs and services that are not fully funded through local tax dollars.

What is the Library Foundation of Carver County?
The Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in 2005 that seeks to enhance the county-wide programs and services offered by the Carver County Library System.  The Foundation has a volunteer Board of Directors that is passionate about libraries.

Why is a library foundation necessary?
While Carver County government has increased their support of the library system over the past few years, this money is earmarked primarily for staffing and book collections.  Many programs and services that residents and library staff want to see the library offer are not possible through current tax dollars.  To support these initiatives, the Foundation will pursue funds through grants, special events, and contributions from businesses and individuals.

How is the Foundation different from the Friends groups?
The Library Foundation of Carver County is a separate organization from the Friends of the Library groups.  Whereas a Friends group supports its individual library branch, the Foundation is focusing on county-wide initiatives that will benefit residents at all branches or through outreach programs and services.  The Foundation will work collaboratively with Friends groups on projects whenever possible.

What types of programs and services will the Foundation fund?
The Foundation intends on funding county-wide programs and services.  Projects are determined by Carver County Library staff.  Projects for 2008 include the Summer Reading Program, Hot Reads for Cold Nights, a new teen anime club, a pilot Senior Book Deposit Collections at local senior housing complexes, and others.

Do other area library systems have foundations?
A number of other area library systems enjoy support from library foundations.  The Hennepin County Libraries, St. Paul Public Library, Ramsey County Libraries, Minneapolis Public Library, and Dakota County Libraries have their own foundations that help support extra county-wide programming and services.  These foundations have helped the libraries serve seniors, youth, and immigrant populations in non-traditional ways that county tax dollars could not support.

How can people get involved?
There are a number of ways that people can help.  The Library Foundation seeks volunteers interested in serving on committees or who have specialized expertise like event planning, marketing, etc.  Volunteers are also needed to plan and carry out fund raising events.  Of course, we welcome donations for supporting our Library’s county-wide programs and services.

How can I make a tax-deductible contribution?
Your tax-deductible contribution will help the Foundation support and enhance the programs available to the libraries in Carver County: Chanhassen, Chaska, Carver County Law Library, Norwood Young America, Waconia, and Watertown.   Donation Form
