Computer services
Carver County Law Library has three public terminals with the Microsoft Office Suite which includes Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and Photo Editor.  You may also access the internet. 

Online databases

Minnesota Courts Records Inquiry - MNCIS
Check the criminal, civil, family, probate, and judgment records from many counties in Minnesota including Carver County . This database is only available at county court houses and is accessible from all the public terminals in the Law Library. 

Westlaw
The Carver County Law Library maintains an online subscription to Westlaw, a legal electronic research database. This subscription includes the full-text of case law from all 50 states and the federal appellate courts, all federal and state statutes and regulations, journals and law reviews, and state and federal practice materials.  By subscription agreement, this database is available for use only in the Law Library.

Lexis
The Carver County Law Library maintains an online subscription to Lexis, a legal electronic research database. Our Lexis subscription includes Dunnell's Minnesota Digest, annotated Minnesota Restatement cases, all Minnesota law reviews, Minnesota federal and state cases, Minnesota statutes and bill tracking, Minnesota Rules, Minnesota Register, and regulation tracking,Minnesota administrative and agency decisions, all 8 th Circuit cases, Supreme Court cases, USCS, Public Laws, Federal Rules Annotated, Martindale-Hubbell with U.S. listings and U.S. law digest and full jurisdiction Shepard's.

Shepard's Citator  
Case law is based upon precedent or authority. In order to find out if a case, statute, or other document can be used as authority, check to see whether it has has been followed, distinguished, limited or questioned in subsequent court cases. This is done by "Shepardizing", using Shepard's Citations to see how and when another court has cited the first decision. The Carver County Law Library maintains an online subscription to full jurisdiction Shepards with links to full-text cases and statutes (all 50 states and federal jurisdictions). This database is integrated with our Lexis subscription.

Thomson Gale Legal Forms
Full-text Minnesota specific, federal, business, personal, real estate and general forms covering hundreds of legal subjects and issues are available including power-of-attorney, landlord/tenant, and mechanic's lien. The legal forms contained in this database are not a substitute for consulting with an attorney concerning your unique legal matter.

Carver County Library Databases
Access to all the Carver County Library online subscription databases is available in the Law Library.

Copiers, Printers, and Fax Machine
The Law Library has a self-service copier which costs 10 cents per page.  The machine takes currency or coins and makes change. 

We have one laser printer and we charge 10 cents per page for printing. 

We have one fax machine. The cost is $1.00 per page for local calls and $2.00 per page for long distance calls.

The copier, printer, and fax are owned by Carver County Library and proceeds go towards maintaining the machines, ink, and paper.

Reference
The law library is staffed by an experience law librarian who can assist you with print and online legal resources. You may visit in person, call, or email her.  You may also call for an appointment to assure that she is available when you make an in-person visit.  The law librarian does not give legal advice but she can help you conduct legal research.

Print Collection
The Law Library owns primary and secondary legal materials including Minnesota case law and statutes, federal statutes, U.S. Supreme Court cases, legal encyclopedias, digests, and dictionaries, self-representation materials, law-related fiction and non-fiction books, legal form books, local law school journals, legal magazines and newspapers, and local and national newspapers and magazines. 

Our print materials are cataloged in the Carver County Library Catalog .

Circulating Collection
The law library maintains a collection of self-representation materials by Nolo Press, Sphinx, and other publishers. We also have a small collection of law-related fiction and non-fiction books. All of our books are cataloged in the Carver County Library catalog.
